We are writing this letter of recommendation for contractor Dean Popoli, Popoli Custom Homes. In 2007, we contracted with him for a major renovation of our cottage on Lake Ontario in Williamson, NY. He was directly in charge of and involved in the day-to-day work and knew about all the details of the plans and issues of the project. He has good communication skills and was very skilled in answering our questions and providing explanations in a language we could understand. Several times, we realized that an aspect of our project was not turning out as we had hoped or an unforeseen problem arose. Dean was always patient and thoughtful about analyzing such problems and coming up with a range of solutions. He and all his staff were unusually flexible in making design changes in the field, even if it meant extra work or re-work for his crew. He uses high quality materials and doesn’t take short cuts as he has pride in his work and wants to do a good job as well as please his customers. As a person, we found Dean to be honest, energetic, hard-working, optimistic and consistently in a good mood.
In addition, all of the subcontractors Dean utilizes are very skilled and experienced. They have long term relationships with Dean and all consistently commented about their respect for Dean as a highly competent, fair, and an overall “good guy to work for”. This speaks to his character as well as his leadership skills. The contractors also mirror Dean’s problem-solving, can-do attitude when issues arise and changes need to be made.
We are very pleased by the outcome and the workmanship. Our 1930’s cottage is now a much larger, beautiful, solidly built, lake house with a unique, integrated look. We have heard many stories of the range of problems our various friends have endured with contractors and home renovation projects, but our experience was just the opposite.
Mr. Popoli is an exceptional contractor. We highly recommend him for any home renovation or new construction project.
